children's ministry

To partner with families in building a biblical foundation for spiritual growth leading to saving faith in Jesus Christ

Children are an important part of First Presbyterian Church. We partner with families to provide nurturing, meaningful, and enjoyable experiences through which each child can learn of God's love.


Sunday School

Sunday School Classes for infants through 5th graders meet at 10:00 a.m. each Sunday morning.


Nurseries are provided for all worship services. This includes services on holidays. 

Children's Church 

K4 and K5 children are dismissed from the 11:15 a.m. worship service following the Doxology. Teachers meet them in the narthex and accompany the children to Thornwell Room 107 for a lesson. Parents pickup their children in Thornwell 107 after the service.

Sunday Night Kids Club 

1st – 5th grade children are dismissed from the 6:00 p.m. worship service after the children's sermon. Children will have a large group music and Bible lesson time with a small group activity. Club meets in Thornwell Room 212 from 6:15-7:15 pm during September through May.

Centerpoint Kids - Catechism Classes

K4 –2nd grade children meet September to May on Wednesday evenings from 6:15-7:00 pm in the Thornwell building. Children cover all 150 catechism questions over 4 years in catechism classes.

Centerpoint Kids - Mission Club

3rd –5th grade children meet September to May on Wednesday evenings from 6:15-7:00 pm. They learn about world missions through missionary biographies. Mission club meets in Thornwell Room 202.

Children's Sermon

Children join a pastor at the front of the church during the 8:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. worship services for a sermon and prayer.

Trail Life

This outdoor scouting program is for boys 1st through 12th grade. Troops meet August through April. For more information contact Ed Schooler at

American Heritage Girls

Units for girls K5-12th grade, meet twice a month late August to April. This scouting program seeks to "Build women of integrity through service to God, family, community, and country". For more information contact Tracy Taylor at

The Children's Library

Our children’s library provides books, DVDs, and CDs for children and youth.  The children’s library is located in Thornwell Room 101.

Monthly newsletter mailed to 1st-5th graders.

Children's Worship Bulletins

Self-serve racks in the narthex hold bulletins for Beginning Readers and Readers. Bulletins provide activies that support the scripture passage and sermon topic.

Annual Events

Vacation Bible School

VBS will be help June 17-21, 2019. Four-year-olds through fifth graders will enjoy Bible lessons, games, music, snacks, and a mission project. Space is limited. Registration required.

Children's Christmas Program

K5 through 5th grade Sunday school classes prepare and present their annual children’s Christmas program to the congregation during one Sunday School hour in December.

Bonclarken Summer Camps 

Camp Session I and Session II are held in July. Application forms are available at

Parents' Night Out 

Childcare is offered for birth through 5th grade from 6:00-9:00 pm on a Friday evening to allow parents to have a night out.  This event is held occasionally throughout the year. Registration required.

Christian Youth Basketball League

Teams for girls and boys, 2nd through 12th graders. Practices and games meet November through February. Camps for girls and boys, 1st through 8th graders are held in July. For more information contact Jimmy Easterby.

Junior Golf Clinic

A golf clinic is offered annually for 6 years-old and up to introduce golf skills. For more information contact Jimmy Easterby.
