Dr. Brad Anderson, D.Min. | Director of Youth Ministry
Brad joined the staff in September of 2007 as the Director of Youth Ministry after serving Boyce Memorial ARP Church as their Director of Youth and Family Ministry. He has a B.A. in Christian Education from Erskine College and a M.A. in Theological Studies and Doctorate of Ministry from Erskine Theological Seminary. Brad has served as a leader for Presbytery and Synod level retreats and conferences for the youth of the ARP for nearly 15 years. Brad is married to Kelley, and they have two sons and three daughters.
Janet B. Altman | Seniors Ministry Coordinator
Janet is a native of Lumberton, North Carolina and grew up in the Christian and Missionary Alliance (CMA). Just prior to joining the staff of First Pres, she was Executive Director of the South Carolina Respite Coalition, where she used her background in marketing and public speaking to be a voice for those who need help navigating government resources and services. Prior to that, she worked for two assisted living and memory care communities as Marketing Director, Dementia Dialogues® Instructor, and Life Enrichment Coordinator. She is married to Steve, and has two sons and 4 grandchildren. She and Steve were received as members of First Presbyterian Church in 2014.
Marie Louise Bowers | Coordinator of Women's Discipleship
Marie Louise Bowers retired from being a stay at home mom in 2019 to come on staff with the Women’s and Young Professional Ministries. She originally hails from Memphis, Tennessee and has Bachelors in Communications from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. Marie Louise was previously on staff with First Presbyterian Church (2004-2009), working in Youth Ministry with Middle and High School students. She is married to Trevor, and they have four daughters.
Nate Cesky | Assistant Director of College Ministry
Nate joined the staff in July of 2018 as the Assistant Director of College Ministry. He graduated from University of South Carolina in 2018 and was involved in FPC's College Ministry as a student and an intern.
Dr. Daniel Cole, DMA | Director of Music Ministry
Dan joined the staff in July of 2007 as the church's first full-time music director. He holds a B.A. from Emory University and a Doctorate in Choral Conducting from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where he also earned his M.M. degree. Prior to coming to Columbia, Dan served on the faculty of the University of Delaware. He and his wife Holly were actively involved in the music ministry of Church of the Good Shepherd in Bloomington, Indiana, and Tenth Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia. Dan and Holly have four sons and one daughter.
Elizabeth Cooper | Assistant Director of College Ministry
Liz joined the staff in 2019 as the Assistant Director of College Ministry. Born and raised in Charlotte, NC she graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2019 with a major in Marketing and Management. During her time at USC, she served at First Presbyterian as a youth summer intern and a college senior intern.
Barbara Diller, BSN | Congregational Nurse
Barbara joined our staff in May of 2017. She has a BS degree in Nursing from the University of South Carolina. She has more than 30 years of nursing experience, primarily as an operating room nurse and, most recently, in medical office administration. Barbara is married to Scott, and they have three adult children and two grandchildren.
Jimmy Easterby | Director of Sports Ministry
Jimmy began working part-time for First Presbyterian Church in November of 1993 as the sports and recreation coordinator. He was employed for nine years with Richland School District One as a teacher and coach and for 26 years as a counselor for Vocational Rehabilitation. Jimmy has a B.S. degree in Health & Physical Education and a Masters degree in Counseling from the University of South Carolina. He has served as a deacon at First Presbyterian Church. Jimmy is married to Betsy, and they have two adult children.
David Henderson | Director of College & Young Professionals Ministries
David joined our staff team in the summer of 2015. He is a graduate of Western Kentucky University where he got connected with Cru, a ministry committed to introducing college students to Jesus Christ. After graduating, David spent the next 12 years on staff with Cru at the University of South Carolina before becoming the Director of Ministry at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, David's home town. While in Columbia, David was a member at First Presbyterian Church where he met his wife. David is currently working on his Master's of Divinity at Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte. David is married to Sarah, and they have three sons and one daughter.
Beth Ann Hurst | Assistant Director of Youth Ministry
Beth Ann came to First Presbyterian in May 2011. She graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2011 with a major in Political Science, with a focus on International Studies. Her ministry is primarily with middle school girls and comes to FPC with experience in Young Life's Wyld Life ministry. Beth Ann is married to Gabe.
Paul Kent | Director of Finance & Operations
Paul joined the staff in September 2019 as the Director of Finance and Operations. He worked as an attorney for twenty-two years, eighteen of those for Sweeny, Wingate & Barrow, P.A. Paul graduated from the University of Georgia and has a J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law. He has taught 2nd and 4th grade Sunday school at FPC, served a three-year term (2010-2012) on the Board of Directors for First Presbyterian Church Counseling Center, Inc., and was ordained as a deacon at FPC in 2008. Paul is married to Kellie, and they have four children.
Hannah Lampman | Director of Children's Ministry
Hannah joined the FPC children’s ministry staff as the Assistant Children’s Director in February 2008. In January of 2014, she was asked to become the Children’s Ministry Coordinator. She graduated from Columbia International University with a degree in Bible Teaching, focusing on K5 through 5th grade. She later went on for a Masters in Bible from Columbia Biblical Seminary. Hannah has been teaching Bible to children for over 12 years in both church and Christian school settings. Hannah is married to Chris, and they have two sons.
Rev. Neal Mathias | Director of Frank C. Hill World Missions Center
Rev. Mathias is the Director of World Missions and of the Frank C. Hill Center for World Missions. A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, he has served as minister of New Hope Presbyterian Church in Tampa, Director of Candidates for World Witness, and then as an Associate Minister for First Presbyterian Church until his retirement in December 2017. He initially came to FPC as Minister of Missions. He and his wife Anne have three adult children and five grandchildren.
Thomas Russell | Assistant Music Director & Organist
Thomas holds a master of music from the Yale School of Music and Institute of Sacred Music. He and his wife Julie, a violinist and music educator, are both graduates of the USC School of Music. They both previously served in the music ministry of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Nashville, were active in RUF at USC, and attended First Presbyterian Church during college. Thomas and Julie have one son and two daughters.
Tricia Stoker | Assistant Director of Youth Ministry
Tricia joined the staff in June of 2017. She earned her degree in Early Childhood Education at the University of South Carolina. She taught Kindergarten at Deerfield Elementary in Lexington for 3 years before joining the staff here at First Presbyterian Church. While in college, Tricia was an intern here and worked part-time with both middle and high school students. She works in Youth Ministry, primarily with high school girls. Tricia is married to Andrew.
Richard Wolford | Executive Chef
Richard joined the staff in July of 2013. A native of Washington, DC, his family moved south in1977. He graduated from The Culinary School of Washington, D.C. in 1989. He has worked in many types of food and beverage operations, from hotels and convention centers to fine dining restaurants. Richard credits his mother, Joan, for sparking his interest and fueling his passion for good food and hospitality. Richard is married to Cheryl, and they have four adult children and two grandchildren.
Emily Woodard | Director of Women’s Ministry
Emily joined the staff in March of 2015 and has been a member at First Presbyterian Church for 21 years. She attended the University of Kansas where she earned a degree in Exercise Physiology and was involved with The Navigators. Emily is married to Robby, and they have a son and a daughter.
